Personal Development Books

Along my journey of personal growth, I find comfort and solace through reading personal development books. The first book that one of my mentors suggested I read was Radical Forgiveness by Colin C. Tipping. Because I was open to receiving my mentors loving suggests I purchased the book immediately.

I was dumbfounded as I read the first chapter. The concept portrayed in the book was so intriguing. Colin C. Tipping suggests that we attract people and situations in our lives for us to heal spiritually. As I read about his sister and the turmoil in her marriage, I related to her from the start. The more I read, I found I was putting my name in place of hers throughout the chapters.

So&I attracted an emotionally abusive ex-husband to learn I deserve a man who will give me unconditional love; love without strings attached. I filed for divorce and bankruptcy not to shame my parents and siblings. But, to show myself what a bold and strong woman I am. I lived in sin with a controlling man whom I worshipped who, in turn, cheated on me, so I could learn to trust men and, most importantly, myself again. To discover who I am as a single woman who is strong on my own; who doesnt need a man to make me complete and happy. At one point, my shame was so great, I contemplated suicide&who wouldnt with such a dreadful past?! I shed a lot of tears and endured much pain while forgiving myself for a past that I saw riddled with failures. To this day, I have not completed reading the book due to the intensity of what Colin C. Tipping suggests. However, I have healed on so many levels. I am no longer a victim of my circumstance. I have forgiven myself for my past and opened my heart to unconditional love. Why? Because I deserve it!

Within weeks of reading Radical Forgiveness, I went on my first date with my current husband. I had worked with my husband for a couple of years and we grew to become good friends. However, I refused to let him get too close to memy heart. I know my husband and I would not be in a loving, giving, and sharing marriage if I had not picked up Radical Forgiveness and read the first chapter.

On our first date, my husband asked my why I had so many reasons we shouldnt date. I paused and took a deep breath before I answered him. I looked him in the eyes and said, I can give you 1000 reasons. But, what I can tell you right now is that I am completely open. I am going to give us a shot. I dont know where this will go, but I am going to take it one day at a time. My husband was receptive to my answer. And because I spoke with integrity from my heart, weve been inseparable from that night on. Through the grace of God, I now embrace my past. I thank God for my numerous experiences. From time to time, I find fear and doubt rising in my belly when my husband supports my decisions without question. I think, Is this real? And quickly, I answer, Yes, it is. My life is as good as it looks. I deserve my husband and he deserves me. We are blessed to have each other.

Now, I dont know if personal development books are for you. But, why let fear hold you back? There are dozens of books I can recommend. Imagine yourself curled up on the couch with a great personal development book written just for you. You will never know where your road to success will lead you without taking the first step. I cant imagine my life without my husband or my home based business. What if I had not picked up that book??

Good Parenting Tips - Who Really Writes Parenting Books?
The best parenting books tend to be the ones written by those with actual parental experience. It seems that this qualifies them to write and discuss parenting, but it may not always make them the best authors. Still, when it comes to taking the advice of either a parent with a little dirt on his or her fingers or the advice of an "expert" with no children, many parents would select parenting books written by the former.
